The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to build a community where people value animals and treat them with respect and kindness. For more than 128 years, WHS has been saving the lives of animals in need. We offer adoption services that place 9,000 animals in new homes annually, veterinary services that save thousands of lives, educational programs that instill respect for animals, behavior services to assist guardians and a myriad of other initiatives that help end suffering for animals. We depend entirely on private donations to fund our programs and rely on volunteers in nearly every department. If you are interested in adopting, volunteering, enrolling in a class, taking a tour or making a donation, check out our comprehensive web site at wihumane.org. The adoptable animals' web pages are updated every 30 minutes!

When our veterinarians approach this funny fellow in the WHS veterinary clinic, they are welcomed by a goofy grin and wagging tail. Despite suffering a traumatic injury, Rockefeller is optimistic and eager to trust.
He wasn’t always so happy. The 1-year-old Bassett Hound mix arrived at WHS from another shelter with a bad limp in his rear leg. We don't know whether he was hit by a car, fell from a porch, or suffered abuse, but Rockefeller had fractured his femur and was living with an undiagnosed broken bone for months...
Without treatment, Rockefeller's leg would have likely gone lame and developed severe arthritis, causing him further pain. The surgery at WHS, however, gave him a second chance. After he is fully recovered, Rockefeller will move into our regular adoption program and he'll begin a second journey - with a loving family.
We were only able to help Rockefeller because of donations from people like you. We do not receive government funding and depend on the community’s support to fund all of our lifesaving initiatives, including the care provided to Rockefeller.
Will you give $10, $25 or even $50 to help us care for Rockefeller? Donate now. You can also sponsor Rockefeller in honor of someone and send a personalized ecard.
Interested in adopting? Rockefeller still needs a couple weeks to heal, but we'll keep his story updated. No holds are being taken for him and all adoptions are first-come, first-served.

Shamrock loves playing fetch and exploring the world on a nice, long walk.
Shamrock is a wise canine who already knows the ropes. She is an absolute joy and appreciates every day he gets to spend with you.

Meet the Winner of the Storming of the Bastille, Gerbil Depardieu!
What better way to celebrate the Storming of the Bastille? The Wisconsin Humane Society hosted a rodent race today, featuring August Rodent, Gérbil Depardieu, Jean-Jacques Ratsseau and Claude Mousnet, who are all available for adoption. The race kicked offa Storm the Bastille promotion, in which all small animal adopters do not pay the adoption fee if they purchase a small animal kit this month.

This holiday weekend, cats in adoption will be showing off their patriotic paws as they flash their red, white or blue Soft Claws. Now is a great time to adopt, as the Wisconsin Humane Society has an unusually large population of adoptable cats.
Every cat adopter this weekend will have the opportunity to pick a flag for a prize. Prizes include free cat behavior seminars, Summerfest tickets, $20 off the adoption fee, or candy. All cat adopters will also have their name entered into a drawing for a cat tree. We are closed Sunday, July 4.

Homeless Cats Seeking Homes
Wisconsin Humane Society sees dramatic increase in kitten surrenders
Interested in adopting a cat? There is no better time, as the Wisconsin Humane Society has an unusually large population of adoptable cats, and staff members hope to have a busy week of cat adoptions.
“We have seen a dramatic increase in the number of surrendered cats and kittens the last few weeks, and just yesterday alone we had 63 animals surrendered, of which 42 were cats or kittens,” said Alison Fotsch, counseling services manager. “The reasons range from allergies in the family and moving families, to owners passing away.”
The Wisconsin Humane Society has already adopted 324 cats this month, but they hope to reach 375 by the 4th of July weekend.
During the month of June, every cat adopter will take home a great prize, including treats and catnip squares. Adoption fees range from $150 for kittens five months and younger, to completely waived fees for adult cats more than one year of age. Included in the cat adoption are spay/neuter, first distemper vaccination, initial deworming, feline leukemia testing, microchip implant, a certificate for a free veterinary exam, and a 30 day gift of ShelterCare Pet Insurance.

In April, a driver killed their mom on Highway 100 when they were only one day old. But on Thursday at 11:00 a.m., all fourteen babies were released back into the wild with a brand new future! Thanks to everyone who helped the baby ducklings with a donation for their care.

Meet Henry. He's a 10-year-old senior Beagle who enjoys a daily stroll and fine dining. This sweet dog does best with older kids and he'd excel with a companion who would enjoy teaching him new cues and tricks. He deserves to be the center of your attention and would prefer to be the only canine in your heart and home! Henry was surrendered to us because he "wasn't a good hunting dog," but we can attest to the fact that he is a world-class, champion snuggler.
Learn more about Henry or meet him at the Wisconsin Humane Society, 45th & Wisconsin Avenue. Would he be a good match for you?

When you meet him at WHS, you'll instantly fall for Papoose, a 9.5-year-old red tabby who is huggable, snuggable, and lovable!
Papoose loves to lounge around, watching the world from the comfort of his window seat. This cuddlebug is a champion cuddler and would make a superior late-night movie companion.
Papoose was surrendered when his previous guardian passed away, but he is looking forward to beginning spring in a new, caring home. See him at Wisconsin Humane Society, or click here to learn more about the adoption process.

Meet Rocco. I had the fortunate opportunity to take him for a TV appearance this morning and he's so smart, I swear he good have driven the car. Rocco is a 4-year-old German Shepherd mix with a penchant for frisbee and a diehard love of retrieving tennis balls. He's a big guy, but very gentle when taking treats and interacting with strangers. He's been neutered, microchipped and vaccinated, so he's all set to go home soon! View all adoptable dogs at http://wihumane.org/animals/dogs.aspx

Max Needs Some Spring Cheer
When our veterinarians approach this tiny puppy in the Intensive Care Unit of WHS, they are welcomed by the thump-thump-thump of Max’s tail. Despite his painful fall from a porch and missing front leg, Max enthusiastically greets his visitors.
He wasn’t always so cheerful. Max arrived at WHS in bad shape. The three-month-old Terrier mix so severely fractured his leg that our only option was to amputate. The surgery, however, saved his life. After he is fully recovered, Max will move into our regular adoption program and he'll begin a happier journey with a new family.
We were only able to help because of donations from people like you. We do not receive government funding and depend on the community’s support to fund all of our lifesaving initiatives, including the care provided to Max. The cost of his surgery and medical care is expected to reach $1,500.

Trixy has been adopted by a great couple from Burlington!
It’s unthinkable to imagine how badly little Trixy suffered before she was brought to the Wisconsin Humane Society. Trixy, a 2-year-old English Cocker Spaniel/Miniature Poodle mix, was surrendered to WHS after a woman acquired her on Craigslist and noticed that something was terribly wrong with her tail.
