Milwaukee County’s Kosciuszko Park, 2201 S. 7th Street, will provide their fifth annual National Night Out - free to the public - on Tuesday, August 3 from 4pm to 8pm. Free admission to Pelican Cove swimming pool will also be offered. The event will feature a children’s area with games and prizes. Safe & Sound Community Partners will provide neighborhood Safety and Block Watch Information. The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad, Mounted Patrol, Bike Patrol, ATV Units, Milwaukee Fire Department and Bell Ambulance Tours will also be part of this community event. Milwaukee County Supervisors Patricia Jursik and Marina Dimitrijevic are pleased to announce the opening of the new Warnimont Dog Exercise Area serving the South Shore. The public is invited to a grand opening ceremony at Warnimont Park in Cudahy on Friday, August 6, 2010, at 10 a.m. Parking is available at the Kelly Senior Center, 6100 S. Lake Drive in Cudahy. Dogs welcome of course.

Malibu Boats and Milwaukee County Parks have teamed up to bring the 2010 Malibu Open to Veteran’s Park, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr., on August 6-7. Records are ready to be rewritten with Malibu as the official towboat. Sixty of the world’s top slalom and jump skiers will be competing for $50,000 in prize money on the smooth waters of Veteran’s Park. For more information about this free event go to countyparks.com

The historic era and "Can Do" attitude of Wisconsin's own CCC camps are brought to life on July 22 at the Washington Park Senior Center, 4420 W. Vliet Str., with a 12:15pm performance of "Camp We-Kan-Tak-It," created by Milwaukee Public Theatre and Voices Theatre. The performance is based on WI CCC camp newspapers and incorporates original photos, drawings, songs and stories from the 1930's, bringing to life what many young men faced during the Depression and emphasizing the positive evnvironmental effects of the project. Join the celebration! On Sunday, July 18th the beautiful Grant Park, 100 E. Hawthorne Ave., will be celebrating 100 years as a spendid recreational destination in the 2009 National Gold Medal Winning Milwaukee County Parks System. Located in South Milwaukee and bordered by the sparkling waters of Lake Michigan, this century celebration starts at 7am and runs until 7pm. It is free and open to the public and everyone is invited and welcome to attend. The day is packed full of exciting events and activities for all ages. A "Passport to Fun" will be offered at multiple locations throughout the park. The passport can be stamped at each location and entered in a drawing for prizes. Electri-Violet at Humboldt Park on July 6 from 6-8:30pm, Elvis and All The King’s Men at Grant Park on July 18 from 4-7pm during the Grant Park Centennial Celebration Day, and Streetlife with Warren Wiegratz at Boerner Gardens on July 1 from 6:30-8:30pm. The Dan Dance Trio will play at Lake Park on July 5 from 6:30-8pm and The Chickadees will perform there on July 7 from 6:30-7:30pm. The Terry Sims Band will play at the Washington Park Bandshell on July 7 from 6:30-8:30pm. This year’s concert series includes a variety of genres for the public to enjoy for free. US Bank Fireworks are scheduled to occur on Saturday, July 3 at Veterans Park, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Drive, beginning at 9:30pm. The firework's display will last about one hour. Veteran’s Park Special Event Parking Operations will begin on July 3 at 6am. (There will be no overnight parking in Veteran’s Park on July 2). Parking fees for cars will be $20, cars with trailers $60, RV parking $60 and RVs with trailers $80. A free Kite Festival will take place in the afternoon during the 3rd at Veteran’s Park, as well. The 2010 summer deep well pool swim season in Milwaukee County Parks is open everyday from 1pm to 5pm. Children at each pool are invited to sign up for swim lessons at the pool of their choice. The season’s outdoor deep well pool open hours are 1-5pm daily. The outdoor county pools daily admission rates for 12 + is $2.00 and the daily rate for 3 - 11 is $1. New this year is the addition of an “AquaTrack” that will be set up on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at Sheridan Pool June 21 –July 9, McCarty Pool July 12- July 30th and Washington Pool Aug. 2nd – Aug. 20th. (*Please note - Grobschmidt Pool is closed for repairs at this time)
The Splash Pads at Dineen, Madison, Carver, Gordon, Clarke Square and Washington Park are open from 11am to 5p everyday. Wading Pools at Hales Corners, Rainbow, Smith, Rose, Columbus, West Milwaukee, Pulaski-Cudahy, Vogel, Cooper, Cannon, Tiefenthaler and Walker Square Park are now open. Calling all golfers ages 50 and up! Sign up today for “The Legends Best Ball Shootout” presented by the Village at Manor Park and Milwaukee County Parks to determine the best senior golf champion pairs in the region. Final day for sign up for the opening event at Currie Golf course is this Friday - you will start your tee off on with a shotgun start on Tuesday June 15.

Milwaukee County Parks will open its summer concert season with a free concert featuring King Solomon on Friday, June 4 from 7pm-9pm. A traditional Milwaukee Fish Fry will be served with either baked or fried cod that evening at the Brown Deer park golf clubhouse as well from 4pm-8pm.
This year’s concert series will include a variety of genres for the public to enjoy for free. Concert attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs and enjoy the live music. Concessions from Milwaukee County Park’s trucks as well as refreshments from various local restaurants will be available. Additionally, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra with sponsorship from US Bank will open the season at Boerner Botanical Gardens with a free performance on Tuesday, June 8 at 7:00pm.
Enjoy your Friday Night Fish Fry in the beautiful surroundings of Brown Deer, Grant or Whitnall Park Golf Clubhouses. Join the popular Friday Fish Fry served in the parks every Friday, now through Labor Day Weekend 4-8pm (4-9pm at Whitnall). Back by popular demand, "BirdFest" will take place at the Wehr Nature Center, 9701 W. College Ave., in Franklin on Sunday, May 2 from 1pm to 4pm. All foursomes pay the following special rates weekends and holidays after 2pm: 9 holes and a cart for $60 or 18 holes and a cart for $100. This Saturday, April 17 from 9am to noon, volunteers both young and old will take part in the "2010 Great American Cleanup" starting with an official kickoff by Keep Milwaukee Beautiful at Washington Park, 1859 N. 40th (also starting at 9am.) Cleanup supplies will be provided and participants should bring their own gloves. Last year over 48,000 volunteers worked to clean and beautify local communities in the greater Milwaukee area. Cleanups will also take place at Bradford Beach, Cudahy, Falk, Sheridan, Warnimont, Grant, Humboldt, Lake, South Shore, and Whitnall Parks. The Mitchell Park Domes, 524 S. Layton Boulevard, invites visitors to its spring floral show, “Jung at Heart” that opened on March 27 and will run through Sunday, June 6. The Domes are open weekdays from 9am to 5pm and during the weekends from 9am – 4pm. Adult admission is $6.50, children ages 6-17 are $5 and children five and under enter free.
