Labor Day "Doggie Dip" at Cool Waters

Residents for Off-leash Milwaukee Parks (ROMP) and the Milwaukee County Park System are pleased to announce the season’s final “Doggie Dip” at Cool Waters Aquatic Park after the pool is closed to the public for the swimming season.  A presale of admission passes will be offered during open hours at Cool Waters the day before the dip on Sunday, Sept. 5 from 10am-6pm.

Labor day Holiday

As September begins we are looking back at how quickly the summer went by and looking forward to fall.  School, college football and pro football all kick off this month.  I am still enjoying the grilling season and seeing which beers go best with what I am prepping on the grill. Via the comment section drop me a couple of items that you are grilling up and which beers you are pairing them with.

Also with September it begins the begining of the fall beers hitting the shelves.  Some great Octoberfest beers begin to pop up this week and in the next couple of weeks.  Here a re a couple that i have tried already and ones to keep your eye out for.

Parents AND kids are invited to join us for a fun and informative program about being safe with our companion animals.  WHS Education Manager, Dezarae Jones-Hartwig will lead this interactive program designed to help families build healthy, safe relationships between kids and their companion animals.  Learn how dogs and cats "talk" with us, how to behave safely around animals and lots more.

Lumen Christi Catholic School Welcomes Students and Staff


It is so nice to see the classrooms busy and the hallways bustling!  Lumen Christi Catholic School welcomes back its students and staff, including 46 new students  and their families.  We also have 4 new teachers on our staff this year.  Karen Smart is teaching 5K-half day and she has been an aide and long-term substitute at Lumen Christi for many years.  Laura Brielmaier is teaching 5th grade and she comes to us from St. Dominic Catholic School.  Andrew Smith is our new 7th/8th grade music teacher and he is splitting his teaching between Lumen Christi Catholic School and St. Peter Catholic School in Slinger.  Our new 7th/8th grade math teacher is Stacy Lesmeister and she had previously taught at Grafton High School.  We are excited to welcome these wonderful new additions to our school!

Fore! The Lumen Christi Golf Outing is Here!

 Calling men and women golfers of ALL abilities!  Join in the fun of Lumen Christi Athletic Association's Annual Golf Outing.  It will be held on Friday, September 17th at Mequon Country Club.  Registration begins at 12noon, followed by a shotgun start at 1:00pm.  The event will be followed by light appetizers, a raffle, and voice auction.  The cost of the event is $150 per golfer, which includes a box lunch, beverages, golf, cart, participation gift, light dinner, golf prizes, and memories for a lifetime!  All proceeds benefit the Lumen Christi Catholic School athletics program.  Please contact Mark West at or Steve Gresham at to register.  If you have a preferred foursome, please provide that information.  Otherwise, you will be placed in a fun group.  Don't miss out on this awesome event!

Meet Cocoa

Princess, a 3-year-old Chihuahua at the Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS), is eagerly awaiting a new home and will likely be adopted in just a few short days. Her sister isn’t so lucky.

Cocoa and Princess were surrendered because their previous family simply did not want them anymore. Why they were so unloved is a mystery. Anybody would be lucky to have either one of these spunky, affectionate girls.

World Music Festival at Humboldt Park

Milwaukee’s Free 2010 Global Union World Music Festival will unite music and cultures in a diverse setting that celebrates music from around the world.  Global Union takes place on the weekend of September 25-26, from noon to 5pm in Bay View’s beautiful Humboldt Park, 3000 S. Howell Avenue.  Each day will feature three eclectic live musical performances from around the world.  Artists from Mexico, France, China, India and Ethiopia will participate.

Public invited to tour Concordia Center for Environmental Stewardship

Mequon -- Concordia University Wisconsin is opening its new Center for Environmental Stewardship to public tours between 10 a.m. and noon Friday and Saturday.

The center houses research laboratories and classrooms to complement three environmental studies programs on the campus. An electric vehicle and a bamboo bicycle will be on display along with the building's energy-saving features.
