OUR OBSESSION WITH AWARENESS
America seems to have an obsession with awareness. As I drove down Washington Avenue in Cedarburg last week I observed a sign declaring October 21 to October 27 as National Massage Therapist Awareness Week. I must admit being a little nonplussed at first. I wasn’t quite sure whether, the next time I see a massage therapist, I should buy a Hallmark card or call the police. After all, October is also National Cyber Security Awareness Month. In as much as there is also an Alcohol Awareness Month (April) and an Eating Disorders Awareness Week (February 24 – March 1), and in light of the fact that the massage therapist is just down the street from Otto’s Beverage Center, I wondered if they are both aware of each other. It seems, however, that Massage Therapy Awareness Week is different from Oral Cancer Awareness Week (April 11 – 17) or National Headache Awareness Week (June 11 – 17), as I assume that massage therapy is a good thing and the others are bad – unless you are a married woman and it is important for your husband to be aware of your headache as you crawl into bed.
Top 4 Reasons to Exercise
I can't even begin to tell you the amount of replies I got last week regarding the line "Put the Spark Back in your Sex Life". It seems everyone wants to know how exercise will improve their sex lives. Here are 4 of our top 10 reasons to exercise.
Top 6 Reasons to Exercise
I know...I know....you've had a hard time waiting for me to disclose the other 6 reasons you should be exercising. I thought about breaking the list of 6 into 2 blogs but I had a feeling you might not have been able to handle the suspense, so I'll spare you the agony. Here are the other 6.
International Students Including Chinese Students Arrive at Concordia

We are now more than two months into the semester and things seem to be going well for the Chinese students from Xinjiang University who are studying at Concordia University. I've become friends with many of the students becuase they remember me from my summer trip to China. It's a great feeling to see the the faces of people I met months ago, thousands of miles away; it reinforces the notion of just how small our plant has become.
An Event Not To Be Missed..
An Event Not To Be Missed…
It was a magical day indeed today in Milwaukee at the Midwest Airlines Center. Wonderful wine, cheese, chocolates, top chefs’ demonstrations, beers, coffee, tea were all available to the visitors. It was an elegant event right here in town. There was so much to sip, taste and learn. The good news for those who missed it is that it continues on Sunday.

CO2 IS OUR FRIEND
It was colder last Thursday in Port Huron, Michigan than it has been in more than seven decades. Daytona Beach, Florida set an all-time low temperature of 58°. Cold temperature records were broken this year in Idaho, Wyoming, North Dakota and Colorado. Similar records were broken in the United Kingdom, Canada, Central Europe, France, and Italy. Here in Ozaukee County, August treated us to an evening of 46° along Lake Michigan, nearly breaking a record low set all the way back in 1892. All of this after global warming/anti-capitalists wrongly predicted – once again – more hurricanes, a loss of Antarctic ice, and record high temperatures. Geez, it’s gotta be embarrassing.

Brown Sign!" Says Holly from the passenger seat of the rental car as she points to a big brown sign on the side of the freeway. I crank on the steering of our rental car (a.k.a. go-cart) and barely make the exit. H1N1 FluThere is such an abundance of information about the H1N1 flu. It seems everywhere you turn there is something about it. Keep in mind that it is important to keep informed about this rapidly changing situation. Infection by the H1N1 virus is widespread across the United States, including Wisconsin. There is more flu activity for this time of year than normal. The Health Department is getting reports about student absences from local schools. Wisconsin Beer TaxLast week in Madison the state assembly began hearings regarding Assembly Bill 287. This bill would raise the tax on all beer produced in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is a wonderfull location for new breweries and brewpubs to open. The reason is the taxes on beer is lower than some other states. This is one of the rare examples where Wisconsin is a lower tax state. Wisconsin is also one of the top brewing states with the number of breweries and brewpubs. Please contact your local representative and let them know this is a bad idea and to pursue other ideas for tax increases. The sponsers of this bill are trying to leverage that increased taxes would go toward drunk driving initiatives. The cause may be right but the use of taxes is not. They also have left out the fact the Wisconsin ranks in the top 5 in the country with total tax impact of +40% of the cost of beer going to one tax or another.
