Thiensville could get bike race next year
Thiensville could be on the bicycling map in June, if plans proceed for a day of bike racing in the village.
John and Karrie Timm of Extreme Ski and Bike received conceptual approval for a race that would be part of the Tour of America's Dairyland series on June 18.
Extreme Ski and Bike has a team of about 70 members who participate in a variety of bike races, including the Tour of America's Dairyland. The tour approached the shop because of its participation in previous races, asking if there would be interest in sponsoring a local race.
The proposed 0.9-mile route would traverse Main Street to Freistadt Road to Vernon Avenue and back to Main Street along Riverview Drive.
The Village Board gave conceptual approval to the race, asking the Timms to return after they have talked to the businesses along the route to make sure they agree to the idea.
The day of racing is expected to draw at least 500 racers plus spectators to the village.
