The cabal that got Dan Abendroth elected Mequon mayor with phony scare tactics that former Mayor Curt Gielow, aided and abetted by Aldermen Zganjar, Nerbun, Hawkins and Leszczynski, were about to turn Mequon into a miniature Detroit, is back in action.
They are desperate to defeat Rob Strzelczyk in the Sept. 10 special District 1 aldermanic election. First, they lambasted these same four alderman who voted to appoint Strzelczyk to the post, over the cabal's candidate, on their theory that Strzelczyk's garnering of 47 percent of the vote in the April election against Abendroth (now mayor) disqualifies him as a loser. Now with a special election scheduled, Abendroth's wife, Bridget King Abendroth, so aptly put it in an email "we now have a great opportunity to show ... that we aren't looking to have the loser ...be our alderman. So we need to start campaigning. ..." That campaign is underway with their first published letter attacking the four alderman who voted for Strzelczyk as consistently voting for "aggressive, low-value development" and falsely stating that Strzelczyk ran his April aldermanic campaign in cooperation and conjunction with former Mayor Gielow.
The truth is that Abendroth, his wife and supporters are frightened that the election of Strzelczyk will provide the Common Council with five votes for passing positive legislation in the best interests of all Mequon residents. They are desperate to elect their candidate to force a 4-4 tie to stymie any progressive legislation. A tie vote allows the mayor to vote to defeat any semblance of progress. The mayor is already appointing some old war horses from the dismal Moriarty mayoral days to the Planning Commission and a 4-4 deadlock in the Common Council can cement his "no progress in Mequon" philosophy. Abendroth well earned the appellation "Alderman No" during his 27-year Common Council tenure.
So, Mequon District 1 residents, be on the alert for a flood of scare-tactic communications railing against Rob Strzelczyk, including letters to the editor and emails from the "Heart of Mequon" site run by the mayor's wife. You can be sure that this cabal is not interested in bringing Mequon together, but rather in executing their selfish philosophy that Mequon progress must be brought to a halt on every front so they can live their idyllic lives in a dream world enclave where time stands still.
