New Homestead girls cross country coach Victor Vilar knew he would have to step lightly in taking over for the late and well-loved and admired Andy Edington, whose athletes revered him and of whom opposing coaches had the utmost respect.
When left Fairleigh Dickinson University as a three-time All-American more than 20 years ago, Mequon resident and retired Milwaukee Wave all-time leading scorer Michael King longed for the fresh air and roaring crowds of outdoor major league professional soccer.
Emily Joers, the defending state champion in girls golf and a sophomore on Waukesha's combined team, watched putt after putt stop anywhere except the bottom of the hole. Then, as all great champions do, Joers found her rhythm before it was too late. Joers rallied for a second-place finish at the star-studded Brookfield Central/Homestead Classic.
It's too bad that there will be no postseason playoffs for the Northern Division of the Land O' Lakes baseball league, as the Mequon-Thiensville Twins closed the season on a roll, winning their final three regular season games to finish up at 10-8, good for a tie for third in the final standings. »Read Full Article
