Angels win state baseball crowns
A number of local players were on the Milwaukee Angels select youth baseball teams that swept USSSA state championships at a tournament in Oconomowoc.
The U-9, U-10 and U-12 teams all won their first state crowns, while the U-11 squad took its third straight title and moved its tournament record to 15-0 in those three years.
The Angels also swept three championships in the USSSA Slugfest at Waukegan, Ill., last weekend, winning at the U-9, U-10 and U-12 levels.
The U-12 team will visit Cooperstown, N.Y., at the end of July.
Local players are as follows: U-9, Mason Wendt of Whitefish Bay; U-10, Matt Anderson and Jake Lukash of Whitefish Bay and Jackson Mandella of Bayside; and U-12, Chris Zak of Shorewood.
Tryouts for next year's teams are as follows:
U-9 and U-10 at 1 p.m. July 31 at Froemming Park, 51st St. and Puetz Road, Franklin. Contact John at sommerfeld4@yahoo.com.
