Whitefish Bay boys tennis
The Blue Dukes got their season off on a sour note with a tough 4-3 nonconference loss to Brookfield East on April 3.
Winning matches for the Blue Dukes were Andrew Phillips at fourth singles (6-3, 6-4); the second doubles team of Andy Krugler and Charlie Bostwick (6-3, 6-1) and the third doubles team of Riley Mehls and Peter Sandvick (6-3, 6-3).
The first doubles team of Matt Kavanagh and Graham Martens dropped a competitive 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 decision.
Homestead and Nicolet softball
The Highlanders defeated the Knights, 6-0, in the North Shore Conference opener for both teams on April 3 as junior Homestead pitcher Rachel Behnken had 12 strikeouts with just one walk and three hits allowed.
Behnken also contributed two hits and an RBI while her sister Hannah hit a home run and had three RBI and Megan Bailey had two hits.
Homestead scored twice in the first and four times in the fourth. Amanda Mehl took the loss for Nicolet with two strikeouts and two walks.
Brown Deer and Shorewood softball
Falcons' pitcher Nicole Bublitz allowed only one hit with eight strikeouts and three walks while also contributing two hits as Brown Deer improved to 2-3 overall with a 6-2 win over Greyhounds on April 3.
Brown Deer scored three times in the first and had four hits overall, taking advantage of nine walks from Shorewood pitcher Abby Prochnow.
Brown Deer, which finished 3-15 last season, has also defeated Pewaukee and fallen to Greendale and Cudahy (twice).
Shorewood, which fell to 0-5 overall, finished at 5-21 last season. The Greyhounds have also fallen to Nicolet, New Berlin Eisenhower and St. Francis (twice).
Homestead and Nicolet girls soccer
The Highlanders got a goal from Kate Wirthlin with just 3:21 left on the clock to pull out a 1-0 victory over the Knights in both teams' North Shore Conference opener.
The game was evenly played as both teams had 12 shots on goal. Nicolet's Kristy Leopold and Homestead's Anneliese Smith each had three saves. Homestead is now 3-0 overall while Nicolet fell to 1-2.
Shorewood girls soccer
The Greyhounds defeated Whitnall, 2-0, on April 3 to open their season, as Sunni Kessenich (Iris Moran and Victoria Nelsen assists) scored both goals. Megan McMahon had three saves for Shorewood.
