Vincent's Hines heads list of finalists for HHS boys basketball job

June 3, 2010

Marquis E. Hines, who led the Milwaukee Vincent girls basketball team to three WIAA state titles in the last four years, heads the list of five finalists for the vacant boys basketball coaching job at Homestead High School, according to a release from the Mequon-Thiensville School District.

"The candidates who applied for the head coaching position were the strongest I have seen in a very long time," said District Superintendent Dr. Demond Means. The five finalists were reduced from a field of 27 original applicants.

Hines, who also spent time as an assistant at Vincent and Milwaukee Messmer, holds a master's degree in educational leadership.

Other finalists include former Milwaukee Marshall head coach Demetri A. Beekman. Beekman coached at Marshall from 1998-2004 and played professional basketball for three years before starting a teaching career in the Milwaukee Public School system. He also holds a master's degree in educational leadership.

Also on the list are Milwaukee Marquette assistant Neil O'Connell, Sheboygan South head coach Timothy S. Schultz (two-time Sheboygan Press Area Coach of the Year) and Milwaukee School of Engineering assistant coach Davinci Wallace.

Final interviews are slated for June 8, with a decision to be announced no later than June 14. The person who gets the job will replace Ray Curry, who stepped down at the end of last season for personal and professional reasons.
