MTSD Sets Deadline For Half-Day Kindergarten Registration

April 11, 2011

MEQUON, WI – The Mequon-Thiensville School District has announced that the deadline for half-day kindergarten registration has been extended until Thursday, April 21.

With the extension, parents and guardians who are registering their five-year-old kindergarten student in the school district will now have an additional two weeks to decide between the full-day or half-day programs. The District extended the deadline in order to allow families enough time to decide which kindergarten program will work best for them. The original date was April 1.

"For staffing purposes, it is important for us to close registration for the half-day program no later than April 21," said Dr. Demond Means, Superintendent. "We are hopeful that the additional two weeks will allow families who are still deliberating on which program to register for to make a decision in the very near future."

The school district has a policy mandating that all courses must have a minimum of 15 students to run (with the exception of end of sequence high school courses), and as of April 11, there were only eleven students enrolled in the half-day program. The half-day kindergarten program is slated to be housed at Wilson Elementary School for the 2011-2012 school year, but will be canceled if not enough families register by April 21, 2011.

"I'm hopeful that we can continue to offer the half-day kindergarten program again next year at our school," said Jocelyn Sulsberger, Principal of Wilson Elementary. "We are very proud to provide this option for families, and the vitality of this program rests with our parents. If families are interested in the half-day program, we need to know within the next two weeks."

For more information about the half-day kindergarten program in Mequon-Thiensville, parents and guardians are encouraged to contact Jocelyn Sulsberger at 262-238-4600.
