DELAVAN TO HOST “CELEBRATION OF FREEDOM” JUNE 13-17

American Veterans’ Traveling Tribute Focuses on Heroes

Delavan, Wis. – (May 31, 2012) – The Town of Delavan and the City of Delavan are jointly planning a “Celebration of Freedom” from June 13-17 at Community Park on Delavan Lake. The centerpiece of this event is the American Veterans’ Traveling Tribute called 'the Cost of Freedom', which is an indoor tribute to those who lost their lives in defense of our country. It includes a scaled down replica of the Vietnam Veteran's Wall; tributes to all of the other wars; and tributes to the policemen and firefighters that lost their lives during 9/11.

Honor Buntings celebrating loved ones will be hung on the fence surrounding Community Park from June 12-18. When they are taken down, the buntings will be given to the person who purchased them. For more information, contact Patti at (262) 745-9473 to purchase an Honor Bunting.

In addition to the displays at Community Park, other activities are being planned for each day at many locations around Delavan with the intent to make this an event not only to honor our military past and present and their families, but to invite everyone from southeast Wisconsin and northern Illinois to see all Delavan has to offer. Highlights of the event will include an Honor Escort Parade, Grand Opening Ceremony, Military Re-enactments, demonstrations & ceremonies, WLKG live radio remote, Fresh Market, Flea Market, Craft Fair, Sidewalk Sales, Kids’ Bicycle Decorating workshop and parade, live music and entertainment, dancing, food vendors, beer garden, silent auction and so much more.

Make plans to visit Historical Downtown
Delavan, Phoenix Park and the Bandshell on Friday and Saturday, June 15 and 16, for sidewalk sales, craft show/flea market, musical entertainment, as well as some living history demonstrations from historical periods, including the Revolutionary War as performed by the Northwest Territory Alliance, a re-enactment organization that studies and recreates the culture, lifestyle, and arts of the time of the American Revolution, 1775-1783 and strives to duplicate the uniforms, weapons, battlefield tactics and camp life of the era as accurately as possible.

A Silent Auction will also be offered

American Veterans’ Traveling Tribute (AVTT) travels the USA with the ‘Cost of Freedom’ Tribute to provide a forum for the members of a community to come together to Honor-Respect-Remember all those whom we have asked to stand in harm's way to protect and defend our great country and freedom as our way of life.
