Mequon resident, Madison Eggert, performs in “Advent of Redemption.” Join Acacia Theatre in celebrating the season of advent with “Advent of Redemption,” a production showcasing several of Acacia’s best-loved short plays and a few of its all new tour offerings. Before redemption can be realized, a Redeemer must arrive. Enjoy the Christmas story with an evening of music, theater and joy.
Acacia Theatre Company will perform the plays in one special pay-what-you-like performance on December 7 in Concordia University Wisconsin’s Todd Wehr Auditorium, 12800 North Lake Shore Drive in Mequon, Wis.
Two plays by Tom S. Long are familiar favorites for Acacia audiences. “Tale of the Three Trees,” a dramatization of a traditional folktale, depicts three trees that become vessels for the power of God's love to transform and redeem. “Tale of the Three Trees" will feature Erin York Burgoyne, Danielle York Miller and Caitlin York. In “One Day at a Bus Stop,” also by Tom S. Long, a commuter meets a man at the bus stop who is not waiting for the bus. So why is he there? Cast members Dawn Kimsey Purpura and David Sapiro will reveal the answer.
New to this year’s production is “Joy to You and Me” by Melinda Rhodebeck, and performed by Ryan Schaufler and Madison Eggert. Witness how the obligations of the Christmas season overwhelm a Pastor until his young child reminds him of its true meaning. Also, discover a “Christmas of Many Parts” by Jeanette Clift George, which premiered last year and is returning to this production. It features the talents of Ian H. DeJong, David Sapiro, Abbey Sours, Naomi Tiefel and Alicia York.
Music between performances will be provided by Danielle York Miller, known for her performance in the title role of Acacia's musical, "Jane Eyre," and Erin York Burgoyne, co-winner of the Regional Met competition. Both are accomplished sopranos who will be singing together at Acacia for the first time since 2002's “Joyful Noise.” They will be accompanied by their sister, Caitlin York. Pre-show and intermission music will be provided by pianist, Linda Back.
