Caution Pedestrians and Motorists in the North Shore.

Aug. 1, 2014

Pedestrians of the North Shore, please read my article and see if you agree.

Pedestrians who Jay Walk:
Can cause serious injuries to by standers due to the dangerous situation created by it.

Bikers on walks: Tend to come up behind people who are walking, without warning them, which does startle the elderly and disabled. (many of whom walk mid path to stay steady)

The biker actions can cause injury to children walking with or without adults. Children will suddenly move into the path of bikes.

At times, as many as 15 bikers come through in a group and a person being unaware will sway to the path of the rider. Many times bikers are moving quite fast. That action can cause a person to drop over due to a sudden scare or become injured.

Many bikers refuse to give right away to walkers and force them to the side of the walk.

Motorist: This dilemma is far more disturbing than the possibility of being hit by a biker.

Motorists are getting more careless and aren't showing respect to the Pedestrians crossing with the light.

This is what is taking place at all corners.
WFB Lydell and Silver Spring Dr has limited time for crossing on foot. Just a few seconds.

Turning in the path of person walking with lights.

Turns are being made on the NW corner of North Lydell and Silver Spring Dr. causing the walker to backup to the walk which takes away the time needed to be with the light forcing them to stand back to wait for the next light.

Pedestrian rights are being completely ignored, on all corners.

The traffic coming from the SW ignores the person walking West with the light and causing them to have to stand in the half way mark to wait, which in the meantime the light will change with the traffic coming from Silver Spring Dr going West and where cars are making left turns.

Caution is being ignored as to right turns there too. Pedestrians spend so much time running across the streets due to inpatient motorists. They actually have to run to keep from being injured,
A person can turn an ankle or stumble while trying to avoid being hit.

Motorists (in a hurry) are also honking at cars who do stop to wait for pedestrians.

This same type of goings on are occurring on Mohawk and Silver Spring.

Cars coming from the West that do not have the turn light in their favor, are turning North into the Mall, while they continue to turn into the path of the walker ignoring the walk light completely.

Walkers are backing back up on the walk to avoid being hit, while running or walking as quickly as possible to get out of the way.

Just put yourselves into the place of the Pedestrian who is running from your vehicle.

People who are crossing Mohawk and Silver Spring Dr, going South to board the buses are running for their lives while experiencing auto's actually turning into their paths, which does occasionally cause the walker to back up.

These folks have reached the midway point and and drivers are ignoring their rights by turning into the path when they should be waiting until the walk sign is off for the walker.

Silver Spring Dr has become a Speedway of sorts and many times autos are trying to get to Port Washington Road so they can make a turn or race over to the freeway ramp under the bridge. Many times they race only to end up waiting anyway. Too many people in a hurry to get nowhere.

Please help to avoid injuries or possible deaths to Pedestrians from occurring

Thanks
WFB resident and one of the disabled elderly who loves to see children safe as well as all people who use our system whether walking or driving anything.
