Local Company Donates Money to Concordia University Wisconsin for Scholarships
Mequon-based Pharmacy Group of America, Inc. (PBGA) is showing its generosity with a $10,000 donation. The initial gift was made to the newly formed Galen Society of the Concordia University Wisconsin (CUW) School of Pharmacy earlier this month to support scholarships for future pharmacists.
Jerome Spector and Ken Plavnick, officers of the buying group, recently presented the $10,000 check to Deans Curt Gielow and Dean Arneson of the CUW School of Pharmacy. The new Galen Society Scholarship Fund is designed to award scholarship support to pharmacy students interested in a career in independent retail pharmacy. The Pharmacy Buying Group of America represented group purchasing of 400 independent retail pharmacists nationwide and intends to make annual donations to support the PBGA Fund of the Galen Society.
“We are extremely pleased to have the support of the PBGA at this critical time in the development of our new school and our significant need for scholarship money,” said Gielow, executive dean of the CUW School of Pharmacy. “They have stepped up early and we really appreciate it,” he added.
Classes at the new School of Pharmacy will begin next fall with applications from qualified students for the initial class being accepted through March 1, 2010. Currently there are more than 70 students enrolled in the pre-pharmacy program at CUW.
Construction of the new School of Pharmacy building is scheduled to begin next year on the Mequon campus of Concordia University Wisconsin near the University’s main entrance. The building is expected to be completed for the start of 2011 fall classes.
