Mequon Dancer Takes Two Gold Medals at Regional Competition
MEQUON– Maggie Nowakowski from Trinity Academy of Irish Dance took first place in both solo and team dancing at the Mid-America Irish Dance Championships, held Nov. 27-29, 2009, in Columbus, Ohio. Nowakowski will represent the United States in the 2010 World Irish Dance Championships to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, in the spring.
School wide, Trinity had 10 gold placements in solo competition and team competition, with 60 dancers qualifying to compete in the 2010 World Irish Dance Championships.
Maggie Nowakowski, 5th grader at University School, became the Mid-America champion in a tough competition against 106 competitors. Victory came twice when she received a second gold medal finish with her team. Nowakowski currently holds the 4th place spot in the nation and came in 6th in September’s All-Scotland Championships. Nowakowski is also a member of the UCC Allstarz Cheer Team.
“The commitment of the dancers and their families this year is incredible,” remarked co-owner and Academy Director, Natalie Howard. “Over the course of the past year, we have put self-motivation and discipline at the forefront of training which has definitely paid off. The dancing is beautiful.”
