University School History Teacher Honored
Chuck Taft, University School of Milwaukee Middle School Academic Dean, History Department Chair, and eighth-grade history teacher, won the Junior Division 2010 National History Day in Wisconsin Teacher of the Year Award. On May 1, Taft was presented with the award following the National History Day State Event competition that was held on the UW-Madison campus.
As part of the nomination process, current and past students, as well as their parents, volunteered enthusiastic words and heartfelt stories in their nominations of Taft for this special honor. As one parent proclaimed, “Bravo to Mr. Taft! The parents and students of the USM eighth grade class are very fortunate to have such a wonderful history teacher…we are grateful!”
In addition to the award, Wisconsin is submitting Taft’s name as the state’s nominee for the national PBS Teacher of Merit Award for innovative history teaching.
