MEQUON, WI – Dr. Demond Means, Superintendent of the Mequon-Thiensville School District, recommended Mr. Brett Bowers become the next Principal of Homestead High School to the Board of Education on Monday, July 19, 2010. The Board approved the recommendation during their July business meeting.
“We are proud to recommend Mr. Bowers as the next Principal of Homestead High School. He is an innovative educational leader who has the potential to take Homestead to new heights,” said Dr. Demond Means, Superintendent. “Under his guidance, our students, staff, and parents will continue to make Homestead a model of academic excellence. Mr. Bowers is the logical pick to lead Homestead into the twenty-first century.”
In mid-July, a team made up of community members, staff, administrators, and students interviewed six finalists out of 21 interested candidates. The interview team unanimously selected Mr. Bowers.
“Throughout this process, we have been thrilled with the high level of involvement from the staff and community in selecting the next Principal of Homestead,” Means said.
Mr. Bowers, who lives in Mequon, spent the last five years serving as Principal of Brookfield East High School. He also served as an English teacher, placing an emphasis on increasing Brookfield East students’ non-fiction reading abilities, which he views as an important academic and workforce skill. As a result, the school’s reading scores improved, with 99 percent of general education students testing a proficient of higher.
Bowers also previously served as an Assistant Principal at Greendale and Nicolet High Schools. He received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Bowers will replace Mark Roherty, who retired at the end of the 2009-2010 school year after serving 20 years as Principal of Homestead. Mr. Bowers will start on August 2, 2010.
