International Human Rights Attorney to Speak at MATC Mequon March 18 on the Journey to Freedom in South Africa
Eric Sirotkin, international human rights attorney, mediator and film producer, will present a free, public lecture, “South Africa: Together on the Long Walk to Freedom,” from 2:30-4 p.m. Thursday, March 18, in Room 289B at Milwaukee Area Technical College’s Mequon Campus, 5555 W. Highland Road.
Sirotkin worked with Nelson Mandela's party, the African National Congress, on the new constitution for South Africa in 1991. He was an election observer watching the walls of apartheid come down in 1994; and worked with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, coordinating an international Monitoring Project of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
In 2007, he created an award-winning documentary film called “Committing Poetry in Times of War,” which demonstrates the power of creativity through poetry, free expression and courageous action to make social change. He is founder and director of Ubuntuworks, LLC, an organization which offers consulting services for individual projects and businesses on ways to increase organizational efficiency while enhancing human dignity and expanding social impact.
