Concordia University Receives Generous Gift for Pharmacy School Scholarships
Concordia University Wisconsin’s (CUW) Galen Society Scholarship Fund associated with the new School of Pharmacy was recently awarded $75,000 by The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation in Milwaukee. The Galen Society Scholarship Fund is designed to award scholarship support to pharmacy students.
The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation is devoted to strengthening American democratic capitalism and the institutions, principles, and values that sustain and nurture it. In addition, the Foundation supports scholarly studies and academic achievement.
“We’re honored to have the prestigious Bradley Foundation support this important health care initiative in our community and state,” said Curt Gielow, executive dean of the CUW School of Pharmacy.
CUW broke ground on its new School of Pharmacy building in mid May. Hundreds were on hand for the ceremony, including many of the 70 students who’ve been accepted into the fall 2010 inaugural pharmacy class. Many of them will be directly impacted by the recent donation.
“The Bradley brothers were always interested in supporting both higher education and local community institutions,” said Dan Schmidt, vice president for program at The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation. “As part of carrying out the brothers’ legacy, the Foundation’s Board of Directors is proud to support Concordia University, one of southeastern Wisconsin’s best institutions of higher learning,” added Schmidt.
Classes for the new School of Pharmacy begin this fall in a renovated space in the lower level of the Regents Hall on CUW’s Mequon campus. The new Pharmacy School building is scheduled to be completed in time for the start of fall 2011 classes. A recent study, requested by CUW’s School of Pharmacy, found the economic impact to the area from the School to exceed $9 million per year.
