Children Share Voices with New Artistic Director December 6
Milwaukee Children’s Choir (MCC) is “Sweet 16” and has a new artistic director, Carol Storck. At 2 pm Sunday, December 6 we celebrate! Hundreds of talented young singers from throughout the greater Milwaukee area will gather together at the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center (SMPAC) for “A Festival of Winter Spirit.” Tickets $8 - $13 available through SMPAC at 414-766-5049.
"Winter Spirit" is Ms. Storck’s first MCC production in her new role as artistic director. It is also MCC’s first performance in South Milwaukee’s Performing Arts Center. There will be candles, bells, violins, flutes and—most important—the voices of children.
“Since becoming MCC’s artistic director,” Ms. Storck said, “the most rewarding part of my job has been to spend my days with children and others at MCC who all share the same passion: singing. Singing comes from the heart. Our voice is the one instrument that is truly our own. On December 6 our children will share their voices with us.”
Milwaukee Children’s Choir members hail from more than 30 local communities. Whether they come from Grafton, Cedarburg, Mequon in the north—Oak Creek, South Milwaukee, Muskego in the south—Whitefish Bay, Shorewood, Milwaukee proper in the east—or Germantown, Sussex, Waukesha in the west—MCC members all have one thing in common: they love to sing!
December 6 concertgoers will hear all five choirs. Young Prelude singers will perform Columbian carol El Pequeño Niño in Spanish and English. MCC’s Cantabile will sing German folk carol Ring Merry Bells accompanied by members of the Advent Lutheran Church Handbell Choir (Cedarburg). Arvo Part’s Estonian Lullaby will be reprised from the recent Present Music Thanksgiving performance. Cantare will share the heart-warming African-American Spiritual My Lord, What a Morning, Jubilate will sing traditional 16th century carols, and Milwaukee Youth Chorale will perform 15th century German carol Lo, How a Rose E’re Blooming. All five choir levels will surround the audience with song during German canon Music Alone Shall Live.
Milwaukee Children’s Choir is Southeastern Wisconsin's premier professional children's choir. It has programs for children of all school ages. Rehearsals are educational, child centered, age appropriate, and fun. They teach not only music but also important life skills such as poise, self-confidence, self-discipline, focus, memory, problem solving, and teamwork. MCC’s commitment to artistic excellence makes it the “go to” choir for performing arts groups such as Present Music, the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Ballet, and Festival City Symphony. Last year The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel declared MCC a "highly skilled and essential musical resource."
Milwaukee Children’s Choir promoted Carol Storck (Cedarburg) to artistic director in 2009, succeeding founder and current artistic advisor Emily Holt Crocker. Storck holds a Bachelor of Music degree from UW-Madison and a Master of Music degree with Kodály emphasis from Silver Lake College (Manitowoc, WI). She is Kodály certified with extensive experience directing choirs from grades 1-12, as well as early childhood classes. Ms. Storck’s artistic team includes choir directors Jason Clark (Shorewood), Sherry Cummisford (Oak Creek), Kristin Dillahunt (Grafton), Jenny Gettel (Grafton), Annemarie Travia (Burlington), Theresa Witt (Brown Deer), and Trish Zamora (Mequon), as well as accompanists Amanda Carnahan (Shorewood) and Maria Koester (Shorewood).
Do you know a child who loves to sing? MCC is now accepting singers for January enrollment. Call us at 414-221-7040 or send an email to membership@milwaukeechildrenschoir.org. Learn more at www.milwaukeechildrenschoir.org.
