The Milwaukee Art Museum’s Street Seen at the Weyenberg Library on February 25
The Frank L. Weyenberg Library and the Weyenberg Public Library Foundation welcome the Milwaukee Art Museum’s Street Seen: The Psychological Gesture in American Photography, 1940-1959 to the Library on Thursday, February 25 at 6:30 p.m. Ray Kehm, docent from the Milwaukee Art Museum, narrates an audio-visual presentation on the Museum’s 2010 exhibit of the year. The program provides an in-depth look at six photographers - Lisette Model, Louis Faurer, Ted Croner, Saul Leiter, William Klein and Robert Frank - active during the 40s and 50s whose work is grounded in the emotional and dramatic changes of that era. The presentation is participatory, and the audience is encouraged to ask questions and make their own observations. Mary Louise Schumacher of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel states, “this show breaks important new ground in our understanding of life and culture in midcentury America - no small feat for such a mythologized era." No advance registration is required for this free program.
The Fine Arts Series is made possible by a generous donation from the Weyenberg Public Library Foundation, Inc. The series continues on Wednesday, March 24 with Communities Read 2010 featuring Peter Ferry’s Travel Writing, and on April 21 with Classical Guitarist Peter Fletcher. All Fine Arts Series events are free and open to the public. For more information, please contact the Frank L. Weyenberg Library at 262-242-2593, or by email at community@flwlib.org. The Library is located at 11345 North Cedarburg Road, Mequon.
