MacDowell Club Concert Closes 100th Season
The evening concert on Sunday, May 23rd, 2010, closed the first century of music-making by members of the MacDowell Club of Milwaukee. Held in the Nancy Kendall Theater at Cardinal Stritch University, the program offered something for everyone, including arias from operas by Gerwhwin, Gounod, Puccini, Rossini and Von Flotow.
One of MacDowell Club's newest members, Milwaukee soprano Ruth Brown (pictured), made her MacDowell Club debut with Mequon pianist Joyce Altman at the keyboard. Altman also accompanied the works sung by guest soprano Lynne Kaufman of River Hills.
The youngest member of the Club, Minh-Tam Trinh, a June 2010 graduate of Whitefish Bay High School, performed Beethoven's Piano Sonata in E Major, #109, and Patricia Witt, also a resident of Whitefish Bay, added three pieces by Dave Brubeck, the 20th Century portion of the program.
Standing on the threshold of its second hundred years, the MacDowell Club of Milwaukee welcomes the public to the start of its 101st season in October 2010 and will hold auditions for Performing Members on January 8th, 2011.
